I loved this performance on American Idol tonight.
Colton Dixon performed the Paramore song “Decode” tonight. It sounded amazing. A breath of fresh air after all of the boring droll that occurred before it.
One of the best from tonight.

Colton Dixon singing “Broken Heart” on American Idol
Amazing performance from an amazing performer, as usual!
American Idol producers have warned Colton Dixon to stop his “overtly Christian references” if he really wants to win the AI competition. Did Dixon heed the Idol warning?
On Wednesday night on live American Idol television, Dixon not only ignored the television show’s warning, but he made an outright, outlandish statement in regard to his Christianity.
Just after Dixon performed an amazing rendition of Billy Joel’s “Piano Man,” Ryan Seacrest asked Dixon what he was thinking about before he performed on Wednesday night.
The outspoken Christian stated, “I’ve been praying before this whole thing because tonight was a big moment for me, and I was just collecting myself and saying, ‘God, use me.’ I want Him to shine through first and foremost.”
Uh-oh! Will Dixon lose massive amounts of voters now that the world realizes that he is such a strong believer in Jesus Christ? He most likely will. But does Dixon really care if he loses the votes?
After Dixon had been warned about his use of Twitter and Facebook to broadcast his Christian beliefs, Today.com interviewed him about his faith.
Dixon stated, “When we first started the Twitter and Facebook stuff, they said beware of political and religious tweets. Just because it can turn off voters or whatever. But, you know, being a Christian is who I am. It is a part of me musically. It is what I want to do after the show—go into Christian music.”
If the Idol voters get wind of his Today.com statement, he may lose throngs of voters not just a few thousand. After all, Colton Dixon indicated that he is using Idol to get into Christian music. Of course, the Christian music industry will take notice of Dixon and his strong faith. It will no longer be difficult for him to enter into the mission field of Christian music, but will he now lose American Idol?
Dixon doesn’t seem to care too much about winning the show and hiding his Christianity. Dixon stated, “I am not going to hide it, and I am not going to stray away from it just because I am on a TV show.” The Idol contestant is the “real deal.” He has chosen a higher path, and he will not hide his faith as some contestants on the singing competition have done in the past.
Dixon also told Today.com, “I wake up and I do devotional every morning. It reminds me why I am here, which is to share the love of God. I know there are several other contestants who can say the exact same thing. But it is a part of me and I want to share it—no matter what, good or bad outcome. It is me.”
It is great to hear the strength of Dixon’s faith. Hopefully, he will not lose fans because of his outspoken nature.
UPDATE: He is possibly singing this song on American Idol tomorrow night, during the Song By Your Idols theme week. If so, this could be a moment for Colton.
Here’s a clip of Colton Dixon pre-American Idol singing Lifehouse’s song “Everything.”
An amazing talent then. Hope he goes far on American Idol, possibly winning the whole thing.

It’s a contemporary Christian worship song, and Colton sang the heck out of it.
