Students of history will notice what’s missing from the text on this antique tin… (Taken with Instagram at Bart’s Flea Market)
ah yes, the original and best pledge, the way it was meant to be.
^wrong. our nation was founded under God and christianity. it should stay that way. not forcing it upon everyone, we have the right to choose. but it should stay.
*Facepalm*
You know “under God” was added in 1954, right? The original pledge, written by Francis Bellamy in 1892, read: “I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
Nothing about God or even America… huh.
Also an interesting bit of trivia to add: Francis Bellamy was a socialist. A Christian socialist at that, which means he believed that capitalism was antithetical to the teachings of Jesus Christ.
Not to mention, only one of the traditional Founding Fathers was Christian, with the rest being Deists, those who discounted the divinity of Jesus, his virgin birth, and praying to God. How Christian does that sound, GOP?
